Rainy Day Puppy Pick-Up: Mary & Tom Take Yogi Bear Home

Mary and Tom picked up their new puppy and kitten Thursday morning. It was pouring rain and thundering, a real summer storm. This is the puppy we have been calling bear, due to his shaggy coat, lumbering gait, and big rolly poly body. He's off to a good start with one of his kitten friends and his new owners. Bye Bear!

Puppies are 7 weeks old! Playing in the yard . . .

Puppies doing what they love! Marina helping Lucy eat some dog food. Ten puppies acn nurse at a time, and that is exactly how many we have right now.
Look at these puppies nursing, good job Lucy! The milk will help them grow and stay healthy long after they are weaned.
Even baby Stella (5 1/2 months old) gets some puppy time. I had to ward off over excited puppies, but they all enjoyed themselves and are quite at ease around children/babies and adults.
We have been taking the puppies out into the big grassy yard and playing with them: running, petting, taking pictures, and getting to know them. Marina likes to run and have about five puppies following her, full speed. These dogs love human contact and gladly follow me around the yard and into the house!

The puppies have been sleeping under the dog house instead of in it! Here is one peeking out where she and her siblings made a peek-a-boo hole. It looks pretty cozy under there. So much for the spacious house! These pups are innovative . . .

The Male Pups

I thought I'd focus this entry on the male puppies, and next time the females. Here are some pictures of the males. There are five, two are perfectly black and the other three have some combination of white on their paws, chests, and/or chins. There is a picture of the puppies with our cat Kiki and her kittens. We are getting the puppies used to the cats early on. Kiki purred and purred while this little puppy slept next to her, and she put her arm gently over it.
All the puppies are growing and thriving. They are so perfectly present and enjoying of each moment, as they nurse and sleep together. They are still just sleeping, eating, sleeping, eating, and on and on . . . Their naps are of a longer duration now then they were just a week ago. Now mama Lucy can leave the house to chew on a bone or lounge in the sun. She spends more time out of the whelping box during the day when the puppies are sleeping, and then she returns to nurse and clean each one, oftentimes napping with them.
